Cara (pronounced Chara) is an old Korcula village with about 700 inhabitants, located in the central part of the island, along the main road, about 25 km from Korcula old town. One of the oldest settlements of Korcula island, spread on the south slope of surrounding hills, just above the large fertile Carsko Polje field, covered with olive groves and vineyards. Due to its off-the-coast location, Cara enjoys a lot of sunshine all year round, especially in winter.
Cara has its parish church Sveti Petar from the 15th century, where a valuable painting 'Christ with Disciples' by L. Hassano hangs above the altar. In front of the church, on the small paved square, there is a huge (50 meters in height) and couple hundred years old cypress tree (some say 500 years old!) — probably one of the oldest cypress trees in Europe. Protected by law since 1825.

Beaches
Zavalatica
Zavalatica bay is quite open to the sea, giving that overwhelming feeling of the size of the gigantic water container and infinite horizon, interrupted only by the skyline of Lastovo. On nice and clear days you can see the blurry lines of Italy's Monte Gargano in the far distance.
Zitna beach
Hidden little bay bordered by Mediterranean flora and large pine trees. Very close to Zavalatica, just 3 km from Cara (30 minute walk). Pebble beach with white shiny pebbles, very warm in summer — perfect to lay on after a swim. Best known for the colour of the seawater — a unique blue-and-green mixture thanks to the sandy seafloor.
